How To: Organize Your Spice Cabinet

Ready to spice things up in the kitchen? I am talking about my latest organizing project: The Spice Cabinet. We have moved three times in the last two years and I have used that as an excuse not to organize my spice cabinet in all three houses. Yesterday, I decided that enough was enough. I was tired of digging, searching, and knocking things over in search of spices every time I cooked.

Now, every spice is in a matching jar, has a label, and I can see all of them at once. The best part – this project costs under $40, looks like a million bucks, saves me time (and stress!) & only took about an hour to organize. (Why didn’t I do this sooner?!?)

Step 1: Measure. Measure. Measure. I know I say this a lot, but it is such a huge part of picking the right organizing tools for your space. Empty the cabinet or space you wish to organize your spices in & measure the space. Use those measurements to guide which products you purchase. I used an expandable tiered shelf so that I could see all of my spices at once while maximizing the vertical & horizontal space in my cabinet.

BONUS TIP: If you are using something like an organizing shelf or tray, you will also want to measure the depth of each shelf/tier to ensure that  your jars are the appropriate depth as well.

Step 2: Find the perfect spice jars. There are lots of options when it comes to spice jars, and with that the price varies tremendously. I chose the Ball Mason Jars in the 4 oz size. I loved the look, the price, and the size was perfect for my expandable shelf. There are some other great options out there as well, depending on your budget and the space your are trying to organize. How To Organize the Spice Cabinet // Organize Nashville // Organizing Tips & Tricks

Step 3: Determine the number of spice jars needed. I grouped the like spices together and counted how many I needed prior to purchase. This guaranteed that I would have just the right amount.

Step 4: Transfer the spices into the jars & label as you go. I used my label-maker to make clear labels with black writing.

Step 5: Admire your newly organized spice cabinet. (And breathe a sigh of relief, cooking just got a little bit easier!)

Could your spice cabinet use a little sprucing? I know mine needed it! Leave your comments and any questions you have below. I love hearing from you. And if you found this post helpful, please share it with your friends!
