The #OrgNash21 Day Challenge - Video #2 Books

Here we are, stuck at home. We wished for time, and genie in a bottle rubbed his lamp and we’ve got it. Think of that one organizing project you have been putting off. Now there are no excuses. This is your time. This is your sign. Let’s tackle those projects together one nap at a time.

Today your job is to watch THIS video ⬇

In short:

  • Use the I.T.S. O.N. acronym to remember the organizing process and organize your books

  • I = Identify

    • Your homework: Identify a bookshelf(s) to organize for your first project

  • T = Take Everything Out

    • This is where I generally get the most push-back but its SO IMPORTANT to fully execute this step. We don’t put our makeup on without washing our face and you shouldn’t organize without taking everything out.

    • Take everything off the bookshelf and take an opportunity to dust off those shelves✨

  • S = Sort

    • Sort book into one of three piles: KEEP, DONATE, TRASH

    • Set a timer for 20 minutes for sorting so you don’t get stuck —> ANALYSIS PARALYSIS IS REAL!

    • Questions you can ask:

      • Have I read it?

      • Is this is the type of book you will reference or read again?

      • Is it in good condition?

    • When in doubt, KEEP IT! We will revisit the KEEP pile during the organizing phase

  • O = Organize

    • Focus only on the KEEP pile

    • Test placement by visually looking to see if all of the books will actually fit on your shelves where you can SEE the spine of each book. If its looking like there are still too many books, here are some options:

      • Reassess book pile using the SORT part of the organizing process

      • Procure electronic copies and part with physical copy

      • Identify a secondary location for your books

    • Three ways to organize your books:

      • ROYGBIV (great for kids!)

      • Alphabetically 🤓

      • Largest to Smallest, Left to Right

  • N = (Keep) Neat

    • Consider using the one in one out rule

    • If your shelves start to look stuffed, follow the process above to reassess your shelves

Don’t forget to take BEFORE & AFTERS of the work you do. We can’t wait to see your photos. Tag #orgnash21 on social media.
