The #OrgNash21 Day Challenge - Video #1
Here we are, stuck at home. We wished for time, and genie in a bottle rubbed his lamp and we’ve got it. Think of that one organizing project you have been putting off. Now there are no excuses. This is your time. This is your sign. Let’s tackle those projects together one nap at a time.
Want more details on this challenge: START HERE.
Today your job is to watch THIS video and learn about the organizing process. THAT’S IT!
(Oh, and if you are total nerd like me, download and print this worksheet to fill out as you watch the video (that’s fancy for “take notes”)
In short:
Use the I.T.S. O.N. acronym to remember the organizing process
I = Identify
Start Small: single shelf, one drawer, one rack in your closet
T = Take Everything Out
This is where I generally get the most push-back but its SO IMPORTANT to fully execute this step. We don’t put our makeup on without washing our face and you shouldn’t organize without taking everything out.
There is something so enlightening about seeing all that you have and knowing what is actually in your closet that makes the sorting process easier. On the flip side, you also get to see your empty space in its entirety.
S = Sort
Sort into three piles: KEEP, DONATE, TRASH
Set a timer for 20 minutes so you don’t get stuck —> ANALYSIS PARALYSIS IS REAL!
When in doubt, KEEP IT! We will revisit the KEEP pile during the organizing phase
O = Organize
Focus only on the KEEP pile
Group like items together
Test placement of items in your space and have a general plan of where you are going to put things back
Put items back neatly in your space and label, label, label
N = (Keep) Neat
Just like you schedule a hair appointment, schedule maintenance of your space for twice a year
Read about my best tips for maintaining your space here
You will use this same process every time you organize over the next 20 days of this challenge. If you get stuck or forget, just come back here for a quick refresher. ITS ON!
