3 Swaps to Sustainable Products
Sharing three sustainable and easy swaps I’m making in 2022
One of my 2022 goals (read more about goal setting here) is to slowly start switching to more sustainable products. I don’t know a whole lot about this subject but I’m learning as I go and its helping me shop with intention. Here are 3 swaps I’ve made in the name of more sustainable and eco-friendly living:
SWAP: TEXTILES IN THE TRASH 🔁 FOR DAYS BAG
This swap was spurred by a question from one of you ➡️What do you do with old towels and wash rags? Trash? Goodwill?
The US EPA estimates that textile waste occupies nearly 5% of all landfill space (harmony1). I’ve also historically struggled with this same thing - what do you do with textiles that have already been passed on (like a dish cloth turned rag) or clothing that’s stained and isn’t a good fit for donation. Not gonna lie, I’m guilty of tossing these items in the trash. This month, I decided to try the FOR DAYS bag. It costs $20 for the large and you can put your worn textiles in it. In exchange, you receive $20 toward your purchase on their site.
🔥HOT TIP 🔥Place a donation bin (cardboard box) at the base of your closet for clothes that you try on and don’t fit or make you feel meh. The For Days bag can sit right inside this box.
SWAP: PLASTIC DISH BRUSH 🔁 SUSTAINABLE RECYCLED DISH BRUSH
I swapped my traditional plastic dish brush for a more sustainable dish brush made with recycled plastic bristles and a bamboo handle. Honestly, this switch was in the name of aesthetics. It looks good on my sink and is better for the planet. I also purchased this holder (yes, its plastic) for it. Baby steps, people. Baby steps.
SWAP: ANTIBACTERIAL KITCHEN SPRAY 🔁 CRUELTY FREE SPRAY IN A REUSABLE BOTTLE
When I started this goal of slowly switching to more sustainable products, I was concerned I wouldn’t actually be getting my surfaces clean and protecting my family. I read a great article that helped me understand the difference betwen cleaning vs disinfection (read more here). This also helped me feel comfortable making the switch from harsher chemicals to the cruelty free tablets spray. I paired these cleaning tabs with this gorgeous bottle. Now it can sit on the counter and I don’t mind. Look good, feel good, do good. AmIright?
These tabs actually come with their own bottles but they are blue, pink and yellow which I didn’t love for me but they are durable and reusable which is awesome. I really love the glass bottle I chose. See the full selection here.
I’m glad I’m starting to make more sustainable choices. Its helping me to shop with intention and learn more about what I’m purchasing. Do you have any sustainable swaps that you’d recommend? I’m all ears. Leave a note in the comments below.
