5 Favorite Organizing Projects of 2021

I hope y’all had a Merry Christmas and are enjoying the wonder of your children playing with boxes rather than the actual toys. I’m excited for the New Year - especially the reboot of the 12 days of decluttering challenge starting January 1!

2021 was a great year for Organize Nashville. At the beginning of the year, I committed to writing one blog post per week and we surpassed that goal by a mile. Y’all made it so easy to deliver organizing ideas and personally, I learned so much about consistency. I am so grateful for this community and a place to share my passion for organizing. As a fun way to wrap up 2021, I thought I’d share 5 of my favorite (and yours!) projects from this year.

1.       Garage Storage

I did a garage and unfinished basement overhaul this year. We redid everything from the laying down LVT flooring, to putting up a designated laundry area, to organizing our storage bins. It helps so much in our daily lives. I rounded up a bunch of organizing ideas for the garage when I was planning out our own renovation (you can read about all of those here). I am really enjoying our non-permanent shelving. Its heavy duty and fits big storage bins.

The best part about the garage storage project is that it’s been easy to keep the garage organized. With open clear crates, we can easily grab what we need (and put it back). An enormous amount of planning went into this space, and I am really pleased with how it turned out. Is garage storage and organization on your to-do list for 2022? Start here.

2.       The Essential Nursing Cart (every mom needs)

I am so thankful for Karrie Locher and her introduction of the postpartum nursing cart. The nursing cart makes it so easy to stay organized. I just wish I had it when Tommy was born! The nursing cart morphed into a great baby shower gift, as well as an art cart once I wrapped up nursing Fitz. Will you try the nursing cart yourself or for a friend? I hope you will check it out.

3.       My favorite affordable organizing products

I hope that you find the solutions I share attainable from every angle – time, cost, and lifestyle. Organizing is not about pretty bins or handsome hangers. Organizing starts with the edit and cannot exist without a proper declutter. This round up of affordable organizing products is one of my favorites because it shows that you don’t have to break the bank to be organized. I hope you know by now that I only share products that I truly love.

In 2022, I would like to make the move toward more earth friendly organizing solutions. I started this by working with Inspired Closets in 2021 for our media center and am working on slowly switching out our cleaning products too. My hope is to gradually dip my toe into more sustainable solutions and share what I find and learn with you along the way.

4.       The ultimate swimsuit guide

While I don’t fancy myself a fashionista, the ultimate swim suit guide was my first attempt at sharing a peak into capsule wardrobe life. After I had Fitz, we also had a beach trip and I was overwhelmed by the number of choices there are for swimsuits. Turns out, y’all felt the same and thus the ultimate swimsuit guide was born.

Throughout the year, I also shared my summer capsule wardrobe and this fall capsule wardrobe. I hope to continue this type of post in 2022. They are as helpful to me as I think they are to you. In the ultimate swimsuit guide you will get a look into my crazy caroline-brain too. I created a grid so that you can pick the exact suit you need according to your preference for top, booty area, price, waistline and more. I also gave some fun ideas for how to wear your swimsuits so you can go from beach to the bar (or wherever!).

5.     Elfa Closet Installation

My first ever elfa install was a huge success. I promised to be honest with y’all about how it went. To my surprise, it was as easy as they say to install and the whole system works so well in our office closet. In case you missed our office reveal, you can see that here. I love how the elfa system is adjustable. Right now, our closet serves as a space for our office supplies and computer, but it easily converts from shelving to hanging for clothes. Such a small space dream! Have you ever installed Elfa products? What did you think?

What was your favorite project in 2021? In case you missed it, I’ll be kicking off the 12 days of Decluttering challenge reboot in just a few days. I’d love for you to join us here and on the gram.
