DIY Valentine’s Day Cards for your Kids

The past few years I’ve DIY-ed our Valentine’s Day cards and I’ve loved doing it so I thought I’d share my process and Canva templates for creating them so you could do it too. My favorite part is thinking of all the pun-ny phrases to pair with a Valentine. The reason I went to create my own Valentine’s in the first place is when Tommy was in MDO his first year they asked us to send cards. Being a first time mom, I hadn’t even thought about it and waited until the 11th hour when they sent a note home saying, “hey we need these tomorrow.” Since Tommy was less than 2 at the time I wanted to find something that was SAFE for toddlers. Candy was out of the question so all of those pre-boxed candy/card combos were out. Toys with tiny pieces were a choking hazard. And I didn’t see much point in giving an 18 month old a tiny rip of toy. I couldn’t find anything at Target last minute that worked for a 2 year old.

I saw a lot of very cute Valentine’s cards you could order (Katherine Kelly Designs does this so well if you are wanting to outsource!) but like I said, it was the 11th hour and too late to order. So I got some card stock and ordered same-day delivery dinosaurs from Amazon and glued them each to a piece of cardstock. They turned out better than I thought! I shared them on Instagram along with some other ideas for Valentine’s and y’all seemed to really like them. The next year, I got more sophisticated and used Canva to create and print the cards. I even got pretty light blue gingham ribbon to tie to the Valentine. I enjoyed making them and the boys got to help by picking a truck to tie to each Valentine

This year I stumbled on some cute crazy straws at the Dollar Tree right after Christmas and KNEW that I was going to create some ex-STRAW special Valentines. But I also have so many ideas built up over the last few years so I thought I’d share those ideas with you AND make it easy for you to do the same at home.

I’ve created a Free Canva templates so you can create your own personalized Valentine’s Day cards at home. PLUS you will be able to personalize with your child’s name and get access to over 10 different design options. Download this free Canva Template that includes exactly how to make them (I’ve made it super simple and straightforward). I’ve also included links within the Canva Template to the pairables you will need to order directly from Amazon. They are all affordable with Prime shipping (at the time of this post). I’ve also included links to things like double stick tape and ribbon with notes on how to attach your Valentine to the cards.

I can’t wait to see what y’all put together. Be sure to tag me on Instagram with all of your beautiful DIY Valentine’s Day cards.

XO
