One organizing product to solve 80% of your clutter problems
Sharing the one organizing product that you already own and will solve 80% of your clutter problems.
🚀 The T-minus ONE notes for the insanely busy:
Find or buy a large basket for the main living areas of your home. Call it a gather basket. Put stuff in it and enjoy not stepping on rouge legos.
🚀 The full take(off):
You’re sorting through bins and bins of baby clothes.
You’re selling clothes on Poshmark.
You’re visiting Target dollar spot less and less.
You’re being more intentional before adding to cart on Amazon.
You even cleared out your gorgeous Michael Kors black faux leather jacket with embroidered floral because it just didn’t fit quite right.
But the house still feels like a mess.
I get it - you’ve hit organizing burnout 🔥and it can be super frustrating.
Don’t give up! You are doing great. Organizing is a habit. And each time you sort through a drawer, put things back where they belong or choose not to buy something from the Dollar Spot, you’re stacking promises on promises to yourself. You’re building the metaphorical rocketship to the organizing moon.
Part of staying the course in this journey to decluttering and organizing your home is finding new ways to be motivated. We didn’t land on the moon 🌘 the first try and your home didn’t get disorganized in a day. The process takes lots of trial and error but eventually you’ll take that first small step for mankind.
So we have to find some tricks for keeping the psych high along the way. Think of it like staying (rocket) fueled through your journey.
Here is a little way to make progress when it feels like you’re NASA still trying to launch (but you want to be like Elon):
Introduce a gather basket into the main living areas of your home.
The purpose of the gather basket is to provide a place to round up loose items quickly - like a teddy bear, part of a ripped book, the dog rocket ball launcher, a monster truck. one lone sock and a pool toy. This does NOT solve or negate the need to declutter but it does give things a landing spot, and clears visual clutter immediately.
And lets be honest, its practical. Even organized people (ahem 🙋🏼♀️) don’t have time to put all the things away everyday. Their secret: a landing place to hold space and time for when they do have a moment to put things where they belong.
In fact, you probably already have a large bin to use as a gather basket today. I’ve seen the Pinterest solar system of pretty matching baskets, bedazzled with individual family names, lining the stairs - but this is not rocket science 🔭. All you need is a basic container to corral stuff.
What a Gather Basket is NOT:
a permanent storage place for stuff.
an excuse for not putting things away
does not negate the need to declutter
What a gather basket IS:
A first step in your decluttering journey. A makeshift “system” to at least start to create some livable order in your space.
An easy way to pick up a room quickly (and then delegate to the family to put things away later)
One spot for everyone to look to find things when they go missing (you know you saw it last somewhere in the living room…)
Think of a gather basket as part of your full organizing launch sequence.
We have lift off! 👨🏻🚀🚀🌘🔭
Will you try it?
PS - The post is dedicated to my best friend and next door neighbor who is also named Caroline. She coined this term gather basket and it further cemented our Monica and Rachel courtship 👯♂️ I’ll let you guess who’s the Monica.
