How I Organized Our Utility Closet for Under $50

We all need a hard working closet that doesn’t need a trip to the garage (or shed!) every time you need something. A spot to store things like cleaning products, batteries, bulbs, and other items. To make that space a reality in my home, I turned our linen closet into a utility closet for only $50. Here’s how:

First, I made a list of all the items I wanted to include in the space.

  • Sunscreen

  • Travel Stuff

  • Bulbs

  • Vacuum Parts

  • Rags

  • Cleaning

  • Batteries

  • Labeling supplies

  • Stationary

  • Toiletries

You may have fewer or more groupings depending on the size of your space and items that you have. I knew that I wanted to use the existing shelving to keep costs low. The shelves are tall and not adjustable so stacking bins was in my plan to maximize the space.

  1. First, I measured my shelves and started looking for stackable bins.

  2. To stay on budget, I chose these large shoe bins. You can buy a case of 10 for only $49.99.

  3. I grouped like items together, tossed them in each bin and stacked them on the shelves.

  4. And I used a chalk marker I already had to label them.

Super simple and functional.

You can do it too! Here is what you need to complete this project at home:
