Have you ever opened your closet and found it stuffed 27 dresses style but nothing to wear? Yeah, me too. That’s why I’m sharing my process for creating a classic modern capsule wardrobe for each season. Believe it or not, you do have clothes to wear in your closet. They just aren’t put together in a way that makes it easy to get dressed and feel confident in your choices. Here are 7 steps to complete before you decide you have nothing to wear and head to Target:

7 steps to take before purchasing new clothes (creating a DIY capsule wardrobe):

1. Make a list of 20-25 season appropriate items. You will need a mix of tops, bottoms, layering pieces, casual and dressy shoes (or just use my picks found here)

2. Shop your closet for items from the list. 

3. Assess your current inventory. Do you need to replace your white t-shirt? Probably. Do your jeans still fit? Hopefully. 

4. Make a shopping list based on your inventory and the items left on the list after shopping your closet. 

5. Use the shopping list to create a budget and prioritize purchases. This will help you know where to shop and what price point makes the most sense. (I’ve included high and low options for every single item in the wardrobe). 

6. Number the items from most to least important with an estimated budget or price next to each one. 

7. Place your capsule items in a one designated area of your closet and wear endless outfits throughout the season.

   
   

🔥 TIP: Prioritize the most worn items first. For example, you probably aren’t going to make it through fall without a good fitting pair of jeans BUT you likely could forgo the more trendy printed blouse.
