How to Stay Organized - Maintenance Strategies

We treat our toes to a pedicure, our hair to a blow out, cut & style. We mow our lawn, clean our house, get our car’s oil changed, and get the gutters cleaned, all in the name of maintaining ourselves and our homes. So why not also treat our closets, pantries and playrooms to a nice edit? After all, we use them EVERYDAY. I mean, you wouldn’t go a year without a haircut or without cutting the lawn, so why don’t we give our closets, pantries and playrooms a little more TLC?

The “right” system will absolutely help keep a space organized (kinda like getting your roots done buys you some time until the next full color). Here are 3 strategies that will help you maintain that beautifully organized space:

  1. Schedule it JUST like you would a hair appointment. Set a repeating reminder on your calendar for maintenance twice a year. Two times that we all feel a little extra motivated to get organized: the beginning of the year & right before school starts.

  2. Use the ITS ON acronym to guide you through the organizing process during the maintenance phase. The best part? If you already have a system in place this part is super easy.

  3. Place a DONATE BOX in your closet so you can part with clothes that are no longer working but still in good condition.

I’d love to hear what approaches you currently use or have decided to try as a result of reading this post. Please share your thoughts in the comments!
