Kitchen Cabinets: Design Plan
Sharing the full design plans for the kitchen cabinets built in with Inspired Closets Nashville.
I shared a glimpse of the wall in our dining area that is going to house additional kitchen cabinets on Instagram last week. Today I’m sharing the full design plans for the kitchen cabinets, how Inspired Closets help us come up with a concept for the space and how we are going to use the new kitchen cabinets to organize our pantry goods.
BEFORE
We bought a flip house and so the kitchen cabinets are all completely new. This is great BUT there is a whole lot less storage than our previous house and we don’t have a pantry. When we bought the house, we knew this was something we wanted to incorporate in the space. I really view this dining space as an extension of our kitchen and these kitchen cabinets are really going to help it feel that way. Inspired Closets helped us with our entertainment center in our previous home and we loved the result. Turning to them for this project was a no brainer. I had a few ideas for how I wanted the space to function before meeting with the team. I wanted the kitchen cabinets to house:
Pantry items
Dog and Cat Food (Big bags)
Our Dyson stick vaccum
Our china and barware
Serving wear and party things
I knew I wanted to go dark wtih the kitchen cabinets for two reasons:
I wanted to add some warmth and moodiness to the dining space
I wanted to mask any mismatch between the kitchen cabinets since we were using a different vendor.
Above are some of the initial kitchen cabinet inspiration pictures I shared with the Inspired Closets Nashville team. You can see all the moody and dark kitchen cabinet ideas I pinned HERE. Most of the images have shaker cabinets, dark wood and brass hardware so that’s where we started. From there, Inspired Closets measured our space (left) and came up with the initial kitchen cabinets design (right):
The design really helped me visualize the kitchen cabinets in real life. We even toyed around with the idea of a wine cooler but quickly realized it was too deep for the space. I’m so glad to discover that BEFORE the install. The 3D rendering of our space made it easy to see how it would look from every angle.
Once we got the dimensions right, we made tweaks to the internal drawer and pull outs of the cabinets. We defined each of the cabinets and made sure they would accomodate the items on my list. Here you can see the internal rendering of the drawers and shelves:
Of course, you could have more or less pull out drawers in your own space. This is what worked best for our stuff. Here is what I am thinking for storing and organizing all the things in the kitchen cabinet built it:
Left side: Pantry area. The bottom two pull out shelves can store heavier and less frequently used items like my Kitchenaid mixer.
Middle: Bar wear on the bottom pull out. A drawer for fancy silverware and the top cabinet for storage of paper and party supplies and vases.
Right side: Utility cabinet. On the far right side will be the spot for my dyson stick vacuum. Y’all they even helped me figure out exactly where I needed to have our electrician place plugs so that when it comes time to install everything is in exactly the right place! I’m so excited. There will also be a pull out drawer on the left side of the right cabinet (not shown) for big heavy bags of dog food and adjustable shelves as well.
Last, we finalized the color choice. As y’all know I wanted a dark color so I chose between their charcoal, ore and navy colors. I landed on their navy. It is almost black with a smooth finish. We also debated putting a light wood shelf in the center like some of the inspiration images but I opted to keep it simple since I want our chandelier to be the show piece in the dining space rather than the cabinets.
I can’t wait for the installation later this spring. Until then, we are using our china cabinet as a makeshift pantry and enjoying all the natural light this dining area has to offer. I’ll be sharing all the details on that process as well as the final result when the time comes.
