Maintain: Sunday Reset

Today I’m talking about my quick + easy Sunday reset and how it helps to maintain my organized spaces, sets us up for success throughout the week and keeps the clutter at bay. Do you do this too? Here’s what we do:

Meal Planning

Total time: < 5 minutes

First, we plan our meals for the week. If you follow me on Instagram, then you know I am not much of a cook. You can count on our recipes being simple and easy throughout the week (like this easy + healthy pumpkin pancake recipe). I meal plan in about 5 minutes each week (and you can too - full post on how to do just that here!).

Grocery Order

Total time: 20 minutes

We use Alexa to build our grocery list throughout the week. Then I compare my meal plan with what we have in the fridge and freezer, and make a list. This takes the longest of any of my Sunday reset tasks at about 20 minutes. I use Shipt (get $10 off your membership here) to do one big grocery order once a week. I ususally end up running by or doing a second order at some point during the week too. Do you use a grocery delivery service for your weekly list? How often do you go to the grocery store/order groceries?

Fridge Declutter + Restock

Total time: < 4 minutes

Before the groceries arrive (or when they do!), I usually do a quick run through the fridge. Generally, there are a lot of leftovers and rotten produce that need to be discarded. I do that and then I do a quick tidy, putting everything back in its place. This makes it really easy to restock with our new groceries, see what we have and keep the fridge clean and organized (mostly).

House Pick-Up

Total time: 5 minute sprints for each area

At some point on Sunday, even if its after the kids go down, Ty and I will do a quick pick up of the house. Lets be honest, Mondays are hard! This makes it much more enjoyable to wake up to a clean and tidy house. This looks very similar to the “oh, crap people-are-coming-over-in-10-minutes-pick-up-the-house-mad-dash - IYKYK. Here is the general pick up we do (its not a cleaning, just a quick tidy!):

  • Put away dishes in the sink, clean up from dinner and wipe down counters

  • Straighten living room - put pillows on the couch, put toys in bins, fold blankets

  • Put away clothes in the bedrooms, straighten bedside table, make bed (if its early enough in the day!)

  • Pick up bathroom clutter and put away

  • Vaccuum (maybe?!)

A few other Sunday reset tasks I like to do:

  • Fill up the car with gas

  • Review schedule for the week and calendar it

  • Refill empty canisters like coffee, cereal, flour, etc

Do you think this is something you would try in your home? If you already do this, what does your reset look like?

I thnk my biggest takeaway here is that while there are organizing projects to get you started the bread and butter of organizing lies in the process of tidying and maintaining your systems. This is one easy way I do just that!
