Planning a Big Dog Pawty - Tommy’s 2nd Birthday

We had THE BEST weekend celebrating Tommy’s 2nd birthday with “A Dog Party. A Big Dog Party!” When we asked Tommy what he wanted to do for his 2nd birthday, he said, “Coco!” The name of our beloved black lab (Coden). When we asked who he wanted to invite, he said, “CoCo!” So we HAD to throw him a dog party. Here are all the pawsome details for the big day in case your little loves dogs as much as ours do:

THEME: A Dog Party. A Big Dog Party!

I originally saw this idea through Julie Coach when her daughter, Marlowe turned two. I’ve been pinning ideas on this board since then. There are so many cute ideas if you are wanting to do a similar theme.

INVITATIONS:

I love the invite as a starting point for picking colors after you’ve nailed down your theme. For this Dog-Pawty, I looked at Etsy. Here are some of the ones I loved:

From the invite, I usually pull out colors, start thinking about decor and creating a design board. We went with powder blue, black and white. From there I started looking for dog-themed things in those colors:

Cake

I am NOT a baker so I kept it really simple with homemade funfetti cupcakes with powder blue liners and dog bone cake toppers which I made using my Cricut Joy. Plus a dog bone candle for the birthday boy to blow out. I also saw this dog bone shaped pan that would make a fun DIY Cake. And of course, there are so many beautiful options you could with your local bakery to create.

Decor

For the decor, I love that balloons have such a big impact. I used Powder Blue Balloons mixed with these adorable paw print balloons. For each table, I had a white tablecloth and an extra large dog bone weighing down the balloons (photo at the end). I also found napkins and paper cups that match the cupcake liners. I also love the idea of using dog bowls as plates and serveware! I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite finds below:

Activities

What really sold me on this theme is the adopt a pet shop. I loved the balloons used here and the stuffed animals used here. I got a white picket fence on amazon, a sign from Lowes that I made using my Cricut Joy again, and then blew up the dog balloons. Tommy’s friends love love loved adopting their own dog PLUS I love that this doubled as a party favor too.

I saved everything in my Amazon shop under “Dog Party” to make planning your pawfect party super easy. What would you add to the paw-ty?
