SOS: Beth’s Kitchen

Welcome to the SOS! Blog Series. This is my take on your spaces. Even though I’m not doing in-home organizing these days, I still want to help you get organized. I’ll share what I would do, which products I would use and how I would organize your space to make it more functional.

Our first space is one of a dear friend. She texted me for help picking products for her kitchen. This kitchen has come a long way and its been fun to see it transform over the years. She uses these cabinets as her pantry since there is no formal pantry in her kitchen. Currently, her spices are in a drawer and its not working for her. She wants to make room for the spices in this cabinet. She also is looking to add some additional containment for her baking lazy-susan area and asked for help picking the right product for that space.

Organizing can sometimes be like if you give a mouse a cookie. One thing rolls into the next. So then we had to come up with a plan for the pantry items too since some of that space would now be shared with the spices. I asked her a few follow-up questions and she sent over measurements for each of the shelves so that I could help her pick products. Here is what I suggested:

Suggested Products:

2 x 9" Turntables (Spices + Canned Goods)

2 x Narrow Pantry Bins (Vitamins, Meal Starters, Snacks/Bars)

1 x Expandable Spice Shelf

1 x Lazy Susan Wedge (Pack of 3)

Here are a few other things I shared with her:

  • Maintain consistency in the products you use. For example, if you want to further contain some of the pantry goods, I recommend more of the pantry bins. You don't have to go with the narrow size for all the bins, but that look will be great for your smaller space.

  • For the Lazy Susan Area: Use the wedges to corrall like items. If you have smaller items that you ned to contain within the wedges, I like these baby bins. I use the lazy susans for my smaller baking supplies and goods, as well as the tops for my pots and pans.

  • You can write directly on the clear bins with a chalk marker too.

I’m not always lucky enough to see the final results of a space like this, but Beth was kind enough to share. I think it turned out great! What about you? How do you think it turned out?

Do you have an organizing dilemma you need help with? If you have a space you’d like to have considered for a future “SOS” post, email me one picture and a short list of your overall concerns. Measurements are helpful too! Submit your spaces to organizingnashville@gmail.com
