Splurge vs. Save: Winter Capsule Wardrobe

The purpose of a capsule wardrobe is to create a select group of items that you can mix and match easily. Capsules make getting dressed a whole lot easier, help you to shop with intention and allow for you to focus on quality rather than quantity. There is a common misnomer that owning a capsule wardrobe has to be expensive. It doesn’t. Some of my favorite pieces were not a splurge including my vegan moto jacket, my chelsea waterproof boots, my Walmart henley longsleeve shirt and my grey zip up hoodie. All that to say, I want the capsule wardrobe to be accessible so I’ve pulled together some splurge vs. save options for some of my favorite pieces from the Winter Capsule Wardrobe.

Moto Jacket: The splurge side is a gorgeous real leather moto jacket. It is TTS. I wear a small. And even though I don’t own this jacket, I’ve tried it on so many times in the Madewell store just dreaming of the day I can buy it. For now, I own this amazing vegan leather jacket. TBH I get so many compliments on it and it fit so well. For under $50 this save is hard to beat and I highly recommend. I wear a size small.

Neutral Sweater: This cashmere sweater is one of my favorite pieces from last year’s anniversary sale. Its a crewneck style and so soft. It fits TTS and I wear a size Small. The opposite side is a great option for a more affordable but still high quality sweater.

Henley Long Sleeve: I’ve had my eye on this slouchy Madewell henley for quite some time and made a point to add it to my winter wardrobe list. The opposite side is another great henley from Athleta with awesome reviews. I currently wear one of my favorite henleys from Walmart (similar) It was under $20 and I’ve had it for ten years. Just proof that dollars don’t always equal quality and that you can find what you need and shop with intention on a budget

Parka Long Puffer: TBH I ordered three of these to try. We are planning our 10 year anniversary trip and are looking at Montana, Maine and Alaska. That said, I’m going to need a parka. I really liked the $67 save option (currently on sale). The big draw back is that it is synthetic rather than actual down. The North Face Parka is a highly rated and cream of the crop parka. It is cinched at the waist which is always nice with a large jacket. I also like that it is real down. I got both the S and XS and while the XS fit I want to make sure I can wear a big sweater underneath so went with the small (SPOILER!). Last but not least, I got the lulu one. It is very cute and fitted which I like. I got a size 8 which is two sizes up from my normla lulu size. Its not quite as warm as I would like but could be great for a daily in the southern winters.

Chelsea Boots: The save Madewell waterproof Chelsea boots are one of my favorite Christmas gifts this year. I’ve already worn them most days. Perfect for the wet weather in Nashville. They run a little large and I bought a 6 which fits my normally 6.5/7 foot great. The splurge option is gorgeous and a tad more dressy. Also waterproof and made of vegan leather.
