Spring Capsule Wardrobe Collection

Sharing a curated spring capsule collection of items for spring including the perfect short sleeve sweater for modern classic style. This capsule wardrobe collection contains 20 items that can be combined into 100s of outfits.

Based on some of y’alls questions, I’ve decided to set this one up a little different (than previous capsule wardrobes) and I think you are going to love it.

If you’ve never created your own capsule wardrobe before, started and then gotten overwhelmed or maybe you just don’t know where to start, this is for you! And if you’ve been doing it for awhile then you know what to do 😉. And if you are postpartum, working through a weight loss journey, gained the Covid 19 or are otherwise in between sizes and have a closet full of multiple sized clothes, I have a whole post on that right here.

What is a capsule wardrobe?

A capsule wardrobe is a set group of clothes that are chosen for a dedicated purpose or season. There is no limit to the number of clothes in a capsule wardrobe, although most people include less than 50 items including accessories.

The main idea is to pick a group of items that coordinate, fit you well and that you love. I’ve found that I’m able to buy fewer better pieces of clothing and spend LESS MONEY when I cultivate a collection of clothes for a dedicated season.

Where do I start?

It’s intimidating to look at a list of 20 clothing items and feel like you have to buy all the things. The good news is ➡️ you don’t! Go into your closet after you look over the selected items and start with what you have. Yep, you are going to SHOP YOUR CLOSET for these items first. Then, you can make a shopping list. You can also make note of items from your closet that you might want to replace - like a stained white tshirt or a button down that will do for now but you don’t love. This will help prioritize your list and keep you from impulse purchases down the road.

What if I don’t have an item or the exact item listed?

Don’t worry abou that at all! The items listed are broad suggestions. I don’t list the specific Madewell Whisper Cotton Tshirt in V-neck (although that’s a great tshirt). I list “basic white tshirt.” Find one that YOU LOVE, that fits your body shape as it is today, and fits your budget and style.

This is a huge reason I restructured this guide for this year. I’ve picked out high and low priced white tshirts, tennis shoes, neutral flats, and more by brands I know and love. This way you can find what works for your size, style and budget without scouring the internet. I hope this will make creating your own capsule easy.

I need like 10 things. What should I buy first?

A good fitting white tshirt, neutral slides and a pair of denim jeans that make you feel like you can conquer the world. Start here. Add in and replace other pieces as you are able. Remember this is a guide so you can swap out the denim shorts suggetion for your favorite pair of khaki shorts. The goal is to have a group of clothes that coordinate and that you feel great in.

For each of the items above, I’m sharing my picks and other options by brands I know and love.
