Spring Capsule Wardrobe

Hello hello! and welcome to the first day of spring. Today I’m sharing the spring capsule wardrobe for modern classic style. If you are new around here, modern classic style is a mixture of classic staple wardrobe pieces with a few trendier seasonal pieces mixed in to keep your wardrobe fresh and up to date.

I try to pick around 20 pieces for each capsule and encourage you to shop your closet before ever heading to the store. If you are in need of some updated pieces or ideas, you can always click on the images below to find more options. For this spring, I opted for a lot of neutral pieces with a few pops of color including this poppy sweatshirt and this striped green button down. You can always opt for more or less color depending on your own individual style.

Tops

For this year’s spring capsule, I’ve chosen several tanks, my favorite basic white tshirt, and a blazer and trench as layering pieces. For the trendier pieces, I’m loving a green striped button down but if you are still building your wardrobe, you can always go for a traditional chambray or white button down to round out your capsule. I love that the classic trench is making an appearance and I feel like that and the striped top are a nod to the ever stylish French, which I love.

Bottoms

As for bottoms, I brought back these high waisted linen pants from last season as well as my favorite white denim. I also pulled out my favorite denim shorts and picked a new jumpsuit for this season.

Remember, these jeans are what I like to wear - this style might not fit your body best. Thats no big deal. Find a style you feel good in and go with that. These are just basic suggestions to get you started on building a foundational capsule that makes it easier to get dressed this spring.

Shoes

For shoes this season, the platform is making a comeback. I even saw the Mia black platforms we all use to wear in middle school on the market again! I’m not suggesting you go buy a pair, but I do like these Drift sandals. I’ve also tagged a similar non-platform option if you tap this image to shop. Basic mules and classic black and neutral sandals hold down the fort most days for me in the spring. And I love a neutral heel for spring date nights - these particular ones come in black, nude, cognac, and clear too! Lastly, I love the rope sandals that are in style these days because they are feminine yet practical.

Shopping Checklist:

Remember to shop your closet first and assess the condition and wear of what you already own before heading online to buy new stuff. You can use this checklist as your guide and anything remaining can go on your to buy list for this spring. Lastly, if you are shopping on a budget, I recommend focusing on high quality staples first (like a basic white tshirt, a great fitting pair of denim shorts and neutral shoes) before investing in trendier pieces like a colorful sweatshirt or patterned button down. I hope that helps prioritize your purchases a bit and take you one step closer to building a wardrobe you love.

Heres what I’m buying this season:
