Men’s Tuxedo Closet

Some of you may remember Ty’s closet from when we moved in. We knew it was a risk having folded items directly on the shelves. Maintenance requires meticulous folding and upkeep. When Ty saw my closet with woven baskets for drawers he turned green with envy and waved the white flag.

So I upgraded his space to complement mine. I knew I wanted to incorporate the same white bins in his closet (they are a bit of an investment and so I wanted to be able to use again if we share a closet in the future). To give the space a more masculine flare than my own side, I was super inspired by these black drop front shoe boxes. The black and white made me think of an elegant and masculine tuxedo style and I was inspired to carry that theme throughout the entire closet.

We used white woven baskets to act as drawers on these otherwise open shelves. I love this option because folding doesn’t have to remain perfect to enjoy a beautiful space.

This closet also has two taller shelves and I wanted to take advantage of the vertical space. For the top shelf, we displayed boots. For the lower shelf we used these black drop front shoe boxes to protect dress shoes and labeled with a white chalk marker.

Here is the before and after of the space:
