SOS: Sydney’s Pantry
Welcome back to the SOS! Blog Series. If this is your first time here, WELCOME! This is my take on your spaces. Even though I’m not doing in-home organizing these days, I still want to help you get organized. I’ll share what I would do, which products I would use and how I would organize your space to make it more functional.
This week I am helping my friend Sydney with her pantry. Like so many of us, she doesn’t have a formal pantry space. She is making the most of her kitchen by creating a “pantry” by designating a group of shelves as her pantry. She asked for some help sprucing up this space so she can better see what she has and maximize the space.
I relate deeply to Syd’s plight as I have two shelves and a prayer that acts as a pantry in my own home. She calls it her “sad little excuse for a pantry.” I wanted to help her make it a beautiful little pantry. Here’s what I suggested:
Even if you don’t have a formal pantry, you can designate a set of shelves in your kitchen for food storage.
Use broad categories for your groupings (think cereal instead of rice krispies) to allow the space to grow and mold with your ever-changing needs.
Remove idividually wrapped items from their boxes and place in a labeled bin so you can see how many you have and when you need more.
I’m not always lucky enough to see the final results of a space like this, but Sydney was kind enough to share. I think it turned out great! What about you? How do you think it turned out?
Do you have an organizing dilemma you need help with? If you have a space you’d like to have considered for a future “SOS” post, email me one picture and a short list of your overall concerns. Measurements are helpful too! Submit your spaces to organizingnashville@gmail.com
