#OrgNash21 Day Challenge (Video #7 - LEGOS)

Y’all this one was BY FAR the most requested topics. I have a 9 month old, so we are not into legos yet but that doesn’t mean I haven’t had my fair share of lego experience. As a kid, I was totally into the Octan system and had each project displayed in our playroom. As you can guess I was not the collector of rouge pieces. My brother on the other hand, would build sets without the instructions (gasp!) and sometimes wouldn’t use all the pieces (double gasp!). So I am no stranger to a plethora of pieces. AND since I have been organizing since I was 5, I have A LOT of hands-on experience in your homes and my own with organizing legos.

Here’s how to execute this #napsizeproject:

  1. Enlist your kids to help you round up ALL legos. Completed sets, incomplete sets, and rouge pieces. ALL OF IT.

  2. Remove legos from current bins to prepare for sorting and assessing stock.

  3. Sort into three categories: Keep, Donate and Trash.

  4. Organize

    1. For the minimalist mama, take painstaking time (heck, we’ve got it right now) to sort each LEGO by color. You are the mom who will actually succed in completing this task. We don’t understand your super power but we applaud you. Now get to color coding.

    2. For the sentimental mama — you love to keep all the things - art, graded work, you name it. Nothing wrong with that. That said, you are also probably not the mom that is going to actually color-code those legos (although you love how it looks). And that’s totally okay! Get them all in one location, label those bins and be done with it. Think big broad categories.

    3. For the traditionalist mama - you are like goldilocks and probably land somewhere in the middle of these two extremes. You love the look of the color-coding but it might not be realistic for your family. Make the best decision for your family’s long term maintenance of the space.

Here are a few ideas to take your lego organization to the #nextlevel:

  1. Add base-plate to the top of your storage unit using super glue or command strips for display of completed projects and additional play space.

  2. Create a to-go lego box using a Stanley tool organizer (linked below). Add a base plate to the top using super glue for on the go building.

  3. If you want to go super pro organizer on these blocks, use clear storage drawers to show off your color-coding. Only do this if you truly believe you can maintain that ROYGBIV🌈
