Organizing: The Fridge

This morning I went live on Instagram to share our Fridge Tour organization so that y’all can hopefully get some ideas for organizing your own fridge. We have a french door refrigerator, but yours may not be the same so I linked a bunch of fridge organization ideas here so that you can get inspired for your own project.

One thing I noticed when looking at a lot of inspiration photos is that putting the milk on the door created a LOT of space in the interior. So that was first on my list. I recently saw Danielle Moss post her recent fridge organization and here are three takeaways:

  1. Leftovers on the top shelf

  2. Bins to increase drawer space

  3. Condiments on a spinner

It really helped me to look at a fridge similar to my own. Once I had an inspo picture, I created a rough plan on a notepad and started putting things back into place. I started with the milk on the doors. I don’t know about y’all but having a toddler means I have at least 14 kinds of milk at one time. For the shelf height, I started with out tallest item (boxed wine. so classy!). From there I knew I wanted the middle shelf to be for beer, water and eggs. So I adjusted that shelf accordingly.

I really love having the leftovers on the top shelf. Before, the leftovers were in the middle and I found that things were getting lost in the back. Now I can actually see what we have and I (think) we are eating more of our leftovers. I am really excited to get a drawer for the eggs. Again, it will help me to see how many we have left so I know when to order more.

A few other takeways for your fridge organization project:

  • Label your doors and drawers using a chalk marker. It comes off easily (but not too easily!) and can be changed if needed.

  • Use broad categories when labeling. Think produce instead of veggies and fruit; dairy instead of cheese and butters. This will make maintenance easier.

  • If you choose to get a spinner, I highly recommend investing in a turn table with a lip so that your condiments don’t fall over.
